Karaoke

Hey, lads!

Let’s meet another activity you can do in the name of art: KARAOKE.

I’ve been hearing some shocking comments when I asked someone whether he/she wanted to join me to do karaoke.

Most of my foreign friends react negatively, like…
“I can’t sing! Especially in front of other people.”
“It’s not common to do that in my country.”
“No, I don’t have a pleasant voice to be heard. It’s better to go somewhere else.”
“I’ll pass! It’s only for professionals.”
And blah blah blah…

They know nothing about this fun artivity! *sigh*

Karaoke is not really a custom here. But, it’s a normal thing to do with your friends. Indonesian people love singing! Even though the person who dare going to karaoke is not very good in singing.

In Indonesia, karaoke place is indoor and private. You’ll have to pay for a karaoke room, and sing as long as you like. They’ll leave you alone, undisturbed, on your own privacy.

There are some karaoke places available in Yogyakarta. Here they are…

  1. Happy Puppy Seturan
    • Location: around Universitas Pembangunan Nasiional area
    • Room available: Small, Medium, Large
    • Has outside-foods-and-drinks check

  5. Hyperbox (Babarsari)
    • Located in Babarsari, around campus of Atma Jaya University
    • Nice interior
    • Bad sound system
    • Pretty cheap
    • Has thematic room (Japan, submarine, airplane, etc.)
  6. Shangri La (Babarsari)
  7. Inul Vista (Ring Road Utara)
    • Located in Ring Road Utara, between Kaliurang Street and Palagan Tentara Pelajar Street, north side of the road
    • High rate
    • Good sound system
  8. Family Fun (Seturan)
    • Located in Seturan, near Happy Puppy Seturan
    • Has interesting package offers
    • Sound system not really good
    • Has extra large room with pool table inside

I usually go to Happy Puppy, which has branches. One of them is Happy Puppy Seturan. Sometimes, Happy Puppy Jogjatronik (Katamso Street).

Another option is Top 40 at Condongcatur (northern part of Yogyakarta). Recently, I did my karaoke moment at Top 40. Why? Because it’s cheaper than Happy Puppy! The song lists might not be the most complete in town, but… it’s somehow good enough…

The rate of karaoke rooms depends on the room size, duration, the time of karaoke, and the karaoke venue where you go to. It’s ranged between IDR 25K to 150K per hour.

Karaoke is good for the one who love to sing but has no courage to do it in front of strangers. It’s good for professional singers, for practicing, mainly. It’s good for socializing with friends – team mates, house mates, or any other friends.

For you who never try this artivity, go for it. After one try, see if you like it or not. Then you can decide to be agree or disagree with my good opinion about karaoke. Feel free to like or dislike karaoke… 🙂

So, farewell, for now. I’ll come up with another topic.

Chup! ❤
